I'm also trying the segmented rosette deal. I spent some time at Mike Collins house earlier and got a new take on end grain segments. you can really use almost every inch of odd shaped pieces this way.

I am building a guitar for my brother's 50th b-day. He led me to Jesus, got me started in music etc. I owe him a lot. So he wants a quilted sapele (got a KILLER set for him!) and if I can I'd like to use the spalted maple somewhere. I also just got some lilac cut from my childhood bedroom window. It's still very wet, but LOTS of color! I'll post as I get off the ground, and as he makes decisions.

Back to the sled. Great creativity! I got a really nifty tiny "miter rite" saw at a yard sale, but it's slow with an x-acto blade. I'd get the angle tweaked in, but the stopped length would be off just a bit.
Looking forward to see what you make! Keep us posted!

No, it is not Willow or Madrone.

Anymore guesses?
Dogwood....
Peter,
I thought you would know.

Hey, It looks like I've stumped all the wood experts here.

OK - I'm throwing in an extra large bag of imaginary money for the correct guess.

Manzanita, Got a lot of that right here in my back yard although It's tough to find a big enough piece to do anything with. I built some violin accessories using manzanita once, chin rest, tailpiece and fingerboard.
Yes! John wins!

I have pieces large enough for bindings. This guitar will have Manzanita bindings, headstock and perhaps bridge too. It is going to be Adirondack on figured white Oak.
